Toda Hachumangu Shrine is located in Hirose in Yasugi. A 200 metre long path of moss-covered stone steps leads you up through the woods to the shrine.
As this area was the sight of battles, the long gate at the entrance of the shrine was built to protect the shrine and keep out the enemy in times of war.
Walking through the silent forest in the gentle sunlight, you can feel the history and atmosphere of time passed.
Getting There; Take the yellow bus from Yasugi Station bound for Hirose. (200 yen). Get off at Yasugi shiritsu-byoin and head west along the small river. After around 15 minutes you will see the torii gate of the shrine.
Note: While there are English signs at Yasugi Station, the signs on the bus are all in Japanese. There are around 10 – 13 buses a day, so try visit the tourist information office at Yasugi Station and plan the times etc. before you go. (The bus also passes by the Adachi Museum of Art.
