Ho-on-ji Temple

Ho-onji Temple is located in the Tamayu area of Matsue.

There are many jizo statues in the grounds, and the statue in the main hall is the largest figure of the Kannon deity in Shimane, standing at a height of 4.22m. It is a designated cultural property of the prefecture.

Behind the temple is a small path leading up to an old graveyard and from the hill there are fantastic views of Lake Shinji.

Watch out for snakes in spring and summer!!

Access: 25 minutes on foot from Tamatsukuri Onsen Station, and 15 minutes from the hot spring district.
Cross the bridge in front of Tamayu elementary school and soon you will see the junior high school on the right. At the dead-end take the winding uphill path to the right and you will soon see it on the left.
