Mihonoseki is a small fishing town on the eastern part of the Shimane Peninsula, and is home to the head shrine of all the Ebisu shrines in Japan. Further up the hill from the shrine and harbour is Mihonoseki Lighthouse, which is listed as one of the world’s top 100 historical lighthouses. On a clear day the area around the lighthouse boasts fantastic views of the Oki Islands.
Access: It is 40 minutes by bus from JR Matsue Station. (Take the Ichibata Bus to the last stop Mihonoseki Terminal.)
There is a local Mihonoseki community bus that runs around the area and will take you to the harbour and shrine area. From there, the walk uphill to the lighthouse takes around 20 minutes. ↓

Great place, especially up near the lighthouse. Bit of a trek though – better if you have a car.
