Kumano Taisha Shrine

Kumano Taisha Shrine is located just south of central Matsue in the town of Yakumo. Since ancient times it has been known as the highest ranking shrine in the Izumo region. The main shrine is dedicated to Susano, and the other two shrines are dedicated to Inada-hime and Izanami. The shrines precinct is large and sits along the banks of the Iu River

Kumano Taisha has a deep relationship with fire, and a festival is held annually for the holy fire of Kumano - the spirit of Susano.

●Getting There: Take the Ichibata Bus (nos. 20,21,22) from Matsue Station. Get off at Yakumo, the last stop. From there take the small town bus or a taxi to Kumano.
