Kezo-ji Temple is located at the top of Mt. Makuragi (456m) in the northern area of Matsue. It was founded over 1000 years ago, but fell into disrepair over the years.

The temple was later revived by the ruling clan of Matsue when the castle was built. The temple lies directly north-east of Matsue Castle, a direction considered to be auspicious, and the large stone Fudo-myo statue stands guard, protecting the city, along the secluded moss-covered stone steps on the approach.

Just past the temple buildings is a look-out point which commands views of Daikon-shima, Mt. Daisen, and even the Oki Islands.

You will need a car to get here. You can park just by the television and radio masts and walk up the tree-lined approach, or you can keep going further up until you come to a car park.
